Mobile Car AC Repair in Salt Lake City, UT

The air still blows, but it comes out warm. Sometimes it cools fine on the freeway and turns warm as soon as you stop at a light. We come to the car in Salt Lake City, put gauges on both sides of the system, and find out if it is low on refrigerant or if something else is wrong. Most AC work gets done in the driveway or the lot you are already parked in.

More Details

Warm air has more than one cause, so the first thing we do is read the pressures with the system running. Low refrigerant means a leak somewhere, and a leak nobody finds comes back in a few weeks, so we add dye and check the usual spots: the condenser at the front of the car, the hose fittings, and the compressor shaft seal. If the pressures look right and the air is still warm, the fault is usually the blend door or a plugged cabin filter, and neither of those needs refrigerant at all. Condensers sit out in front of the radiator and take rock damage on the freeway more often than people expect, which is why a car that cooled all last summer can be empty by June. If you are stopped somewhere and not sure what the road is called, the address numbers do the work for you: they count blocks north or south and east or west of Temple Square, so the nearest sign tells us where you are. Blocks here are long, and walking to a shop from a stall is further than it looks on a map.

Frequently Asked Questions About Car AC Repair in Salt Lake City

Why does my AC cool on the freeway and go warm at a stop light? +

That usually points at airflow through the condenser or a cooling fan that is not switching on. At speed the air pushes through on its own, and at a stop the fan has to do it. We check fan operation and pressures before replacing any parts.

Can you just top it off? +

We can, but refrigerant is not something the car uses up. If the system is low, it is leaking, so we add dye and look for the leak first. Otherwise you pay for the same recharge again in a month or two.

How long does an AC job take? +

A test and recharge is usually about an hour once we are on site. A compressor or condenser takes longer, sometimes most of the afternoon. We tell you which one you are looking at before any work starts.

Do you need a shop for AC work, or can you do it where I am parked? +

We bring the recovery machine, gauges and vacuum pump to the car. A driveway, a work lot or a street space is enough room. Read us the block numbers off the nearest sign and we will find you.
